Angle builder

Pick the conditions, and see what they did over 110,528 runners of British and Irish racing. You get the strike rate, the return at level stakes and the worst losing run — and, because a number on its own is how people talk themselves into systems, a check of whether the result beat the prices it was taking or just restated them.

How the check works

The range. Every return comes with a 95% range, resampled from the actual results by race day rather than by bet — runners on the same card are not independent, and pretending they are makes a range look tighter than the evidence supports.

The redraws. Then the same angle is re-run hundreds of times against a version of history in which every horse wins exactly as often as its 8am price says it should. If your angle's return sits inside the spread those redraws produce, it found nothing — the horses it picked won about as often as the market already expected. Only a result outside that spread is telling you something the price was not.

Why it is against the market and not against zero. Backing every favourite loses money on this data and still beats the redraws, because favourites win slightly more often than their price implies. Both facts are true and the tool shows both: losing money and beating the price are different questions, and a system that answers only one of them is misleading you.
